Roasted chickpeas are a favourite to make at our house. The kids and adults alike love them! They’re simple to make and the flavour combinations are endless!

What You’ll Need

  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet
  • Strainer
  • Kitchen towel
  • 5 cups (or 2 large cans) pre-cooked chickpeas
  • 2 tbsp Avocado oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp Himalayan salt

How To Make Them

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

If you’re using canned chickpeas you will first want to drain and rinse them in the strainer. Whether you’re starting with dry pre-cooked beans or canned the next step is the same; lay chickpeas on the kitchen towel to dry for a minute. The less moisture there is on the chickpeas the better then will roast! And we all love a good crunch!

Cut a piece of parchment paper large enough for your baking sheet. Then put your chickpeas on the parchment paper. Pour the avocado oil on top of the chickpeas and toss with your hands to coat the spread them evenly on the baking sheet.

Sprinkle spices on top and place in the oven for 10 minutes. When the timer goes off, take them out of the oven and toss them again with a spatula. Place the tray back into the oven for 30 minutes.

Oven times can vary depending on your oven so keep an eye on them! They can go from perfect to burnt very quickly!

We usually eat these roasted chickpeas with the spice mix above because the kids like them best that way, but you could experiment with different spices to suit your tastes. When it will just be me eating them I like to toss them in curry spice, or sometimes cinnamon, nutmeg and a bit of honey!

How will you flavour your roasted chickpeas?
