This Big Mac Salad Recipe came about because I was craving a hamburger from the Big M, but I hate the nasty ingredients in the real thing. So I came up with a healthier version I don’t have to feel bad about!

In this post, I’ll share the recipe for the salad as well as the Special Sauce I use as the dressing. I make it using my homemade avocado mayo so if you want to check out how you can make it yourself at home, too, then click here for the recipe!

I like to make my own mayo at home because it’s SO FRESH tasting. You can also be sure that it won’t contain any of the additives and preservatives that store-bought stuff does. Making it at home yourself can also save you LOADS of money!

I don’t know about you, but where we are avocado oil mayo is fairly expensive. It’s just such an amazing healthy oil that it’s hard to pass up making it myself that way I don’t have to buy mayo made with oils that are bad for us.

Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp special sauce
  • 1/4 cup browned ground beef
  • 1 tbsp diced white onion
  • 1 small diced fermented pickle
  • 5 small cherry tomatoes cut into quarters
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheese
  • 2 1/2 cups salad mix

Instructions

  • Brown ground beef in a pan. Allow the ground beef to cool before adding it to the jar. If you skip this step your lettuce will wilt from the heat released from the hot ground beef.
  • While the ground beef is browning chop vegetables in the list.
  • Add the dressing to the bottom of the jar and then add the ground beef and the chopped vegetables. Next add the cheese and salad mix and store.
  • When you're ready to eat empty the contents of the jar into a bowl and mix to combine the dressing. Enjoy!

This special sauce tastes amazingly close to the real thing! I like to make up a batch the day before I will be using it so that the flavours can meld together before I use it. I find that it keeps well in the fridge for about a week.

We’ve also used it on homemade hamburgers as well as the salad for an at-home take-out treat. Living in the country means we can’t always get take-out which is probably a good thing anyway!
